PHLUSH: Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human has been working since 2005 in Portland, Oregon to promote public toilets that protect the health of our environment. We are a grassroots group of volunteers seeking social change. The PHLUSH initiative for 1) urban restroom design, 2) ecological sanitation, and 3) emergency toilets is open to all people and all groups.  We welcome ­individuals interested in forming affiliate PHLUSH groups and appreciate partnerships with groups already working on sanitation and hygiene.

If you are interested in forming a PHLUSH Group or in partnering with us, please send us a message at info (at) Portland PHLUSH can assist with research by pointing out quality studies and outreach materials from various sources. We are also  happy to develop a simple webpage to help with PHLUSH Groups advocacy efforts.

    Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human, or PHLUSH, is an all-volunteer advocacy group based in Portland's Old Town Chinatown. We collaborate with grassroots organizations, environmental activists, planners, architects, code officials and city managers. We receive support from the Old Town Chinatown Community Association and Neighbors West-Northwest. PHLUSH is a member of the World Toilet Organization and a partner in the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance.
